Glow little glow worm, glow and glimmer Kate was only four days old and already had to have "therapy". :) On Sunday when we went for her newborn appointment at the pediatrician, there was some alarm about how high her jaundice levels were. The pediatrician sent us straight to the lab to get some bloodwork done (poor girl did not like having her heel pricked!), and then called us shortly after to tell us that her levels were actually higher than the original measurement. Ahhh! So we had to go back that afternoon to weigh her on a more accurate digital scale and to pick up a biliblanket. The biliblanket is to help break up the chemical bilirubin that was backed up in her body and gave her the high levels of jaundice. She had to have it on her skin 24/7. It was kind of a pain to carry around that machine wherever we took her in the house, to keep it on her while nursing, changing her diaper, etc. She slept in her car seat Sunday night because it was almost impossible to get the biliblanket up in her crib. We were very committed, though, and it paid off because by Tuesday morning her levels were in an acceptable range and Dr. B said she didn't need the therapy anymore. Also during this time I was asked to feed her a lot. I did, and I think it really helped. All in all it was no big deal...just 4 trips to the hospital in 3 days, 3 heel pricks, lots of nursing, and the beloved biliblanket. Thank the Lord that it didn't last long and she is fine now!
