We hope you've had a great Christmas like we've had! And we wish you a wonderful new year like we are going to have with two growing girls and a baby on the way!

Baby #3 is due in the middle of August. The first doctor appointment went so well today: a strong heartbeat! We can't wait to meet the next member of our family!

It's been hard to find time for the computer this week to update photos because we've been potty training!

Kate has done so well thus far and I couldn't be more pleased! She's so cute about it, too, which has made it more fun.

Timer set for every 20 minutes

2 accidents on day 1, no accidents today!

Small candy for each success

pump it up playtime

On Wednesday we joined some friends at Pump It Up (inflatables) in Roanoke. Imagine two small girls excited as they can possibly be (squealing, running around, jumping up and down while holding hands and squealing, climbing the obstacles as fast at they can)!! It was a blast for all of us...I really love watching them in their element.

It was great to spend time with friends this week, too.

Kate spent some time being devastated that she couldn't keep up with 6-year-old Nicholas. She followed him around yelling, "wait for me Nicholas! wait!" It's so strange how she gets attached to these older boys and insists on doing everything with them...hmmm.

I was so relieved that Kate could do everything by herself with no help, and so proud!

Caleb says he wants to play, too, Mommy!

checkers championship

This last video from Saturday at the Fernandez Christmas party shows the match-up between cousin Brian and Virginia for the checkers championship. If you remember, we started the checkers tournament at Mike and Peggy's house for Thanksgiving, but the two finalists didn't get to play because it got too late. So here they are, finishing it out. Brian pulled ahead early in the game and won. You can see and hear cousin David and Uncle Charles announcing the match on the right side. My favorite part about this video, though, is my daughter playing with her Grandma :)

pinehurst

On Friday afternoon we left Salem and drove to Pinehurst to stay with Granddaddy and Grandma Carolyn for the night.

We were thankful to have a chance to relax with them on Saturday morning before our big day at the Fernandez Christmas.

Their home is so beautiful and homey, and V and K were thrilled to be there.

I am so proud of them for adjusting so well to new places and going with the flow. They slept in 4 different places throughout that weekend and didn't have a problem at all!

Grandma Carolyn introduced them to this string of musical Christmas lights, and they played with it the entire morning. Might have driven the adults a little crazy with the songs but we were happy they were entertained :)

Aaron spent a few minutes wrapping some gifts...he is really good at it. I try to defer this job to him whenever possible.

You can see their dining area and living room in this picture...stunning!

To get them to pose for a picture, we had to allow Kate to continue holding those lights!

Wow...they've never seen something like this in anyone's house before!

They enjoyed playing in Granddaddy's exercise room for a while...throwing his golf balls around and making games out of it.

Thank you for letting us stay in your home and treating us to such a wonderful breakfast!

Here is a short video that Uncle Rick took while the Fernandez family was cleaning up from the enchilada lunch on Saturday.
Where was I? Probably putting the girls to sleep upstairs or chatting with an aunt. It was a busy, wild day...can you tell?
I will post more pictures and another video from our Christmas party soon.

preschool program

Vivian and Kate had a program at their preschool on Friday. Aaron, Papa, Gramme, and I went to watch our cuties and their friends. I didn't get many pictures because we were sitting far away and I was also trying to be smiley for them. Kate did well. She was wiggly, but she did the motions as she remembered them, and tried to sing along when she was actually paying attention. Vivian was a different story :) She had a serious face when she came out, but then started picking her nose, picking her lip...great! haha
Then, she spotted Aaron and it went downhill from there! My theory is that she was overwhelmed with the surprise of seeing us in the audience watching her, and couldn't contain her reaction...she started tearing up :( At first I could tell she was trying to get herself together, but just couldn't...she was all-out crying by the time it was her group's turn to do their own song and the teacher had to get her off stage!! Poor thing! I felt so bad for her and wondered what we could have done differently. Maybe for the spring program we'll have a better plan!

Here's a hilarious and cute video that Darren made. He and Kristin were sitting on the front row, so they have a great view. I love Lilah's moves. She's a performer! He caught some funny moments.

trees!

Last Monday night Gramme took us on a girl's date to the Hotel Roanoke to see the Christmas tree exhibit. There were 25 trees elaborately decorated, all competing to be the best-loved tree. We enjoyed seeing the creativity and thought that went into the designs. V and K did well, but there were lots of breakable ornaments, lots of things for them to mess up just by touching, so it was kind of stressful at moments when they got too close or were being too wild.

This was their favorite Christmas tree, of course! It was done by a local nursing home. Very impressive detail. They love Ariel.

After seeing the trees, we went out to dinner together. It was a memorable Christmas evening!

rehearsals

We've had three rehearsals in the past two weeks for our Christmas program (which is tonight and tomorrow night...if you're in town, please come!).

It's been pretty enjoyable...it's certainly a time of worship for us, and we also enjoy goofing around together.

The kids are dressed as shepherds and sheep because the Scripture for the night is from Luke 2, when the angels come to announce the birth of Christ.

Busy, busy week! But we're looking forward to worshipping with the congregation this weekend!

On Monday and Tuesday for a few hours, we were able to play with a new friend! Boston came to spend some time with us while his mommy and daddy were attending viewings and a funeral. He's my friend Kari's son, and almost the exact same age as Kate! Needless to say, they were thrilled to play with him and have his company.
