Aaron invited a bunch of guys over on Sunday after church for another football game. It was a little drizzly this year but not cold, perfect for it.

I haven't heard as much complaining about soreness this year!

And a note to the wives: you left me hanging. Next year, please come and sit with me!

Kate wanted so badly to be in the middle of everything going on with the guys. She crashed their huddle and told me all their secrets.

Sophia came to hang out with us!

We just can't bring ourselves to leave after our small group is over. The kids wanting a last-minute dessert snack is a good reason to stick around :)

cascades hike

A couple of weekends ago when Aaron's family came to visit, we all went on a hike together. We drove to Cascade Falls, about an hour away, and started walking.

Everyone was up for the challenge! We didn't have a hiking backpack to carry Hank, so we took turns carrying him in our arms and it worked out fine.

Uncle Ben took pictures for us on his phone and sent them to me.

I was concerned of the possibility that the girls would complain about being tired or not being able to do the hike, to some extent, or maybe a lot, and it would make a mess of the day. But they were so awesome! They were really into the hike, and even wanted be the leaders. I was really thankful because it could have gone either way.

Our destination! Beautiful waterfall. It was a little chilly when we stopped walking and took a break there at the waterfall. We had a snack and water, and then started walking back down.

I wrote out a simple scavenger hunt on the drive there, and the girls had fun finding the things on it. Ashely helped them with that.

lunch today

A dear friend of mine moved into a new home very close to us, so we enjoyed a lunch together there today after preschool! It's great to be able to have time with friends during the week, and for the kids to see each other and get a chance to play with new toys :)

camping

We camped out in our backyard on Saturday night.

Aaron spent some time that afternoon setting everything up and did an awesome job with the preparations. It was kind of a lot of work, but definitely worth it.

We put H to bed around 6:30 and got started. We sang camp songs around the fire while Aaron grilled our dinner. Uncle Stephen came that afternoon to help with the dinner and hang out around the campfire with us!

We ate next to the fire and then roasted marshmallows to make s'mores...the girls were thrilled with everything we did. They were into it!

Papa and Gramme stopped by for a s'more at the end.

We put them in the tent and it took them a little bit to fall asleep, but not too much...they were exhausted from a big day of playing. Aaron stayed outside with them all night and I was in the house with the baby. I went to go wake them up on Sunday morning and got a few pictures inside the tent.

They were all sleeping hard when I got there.

Very memorable camping experience. We love these days!

aaron's 32nd

We celebrated Aaron's birthday 3 or 4 times last week. His birthday was September 29th, a Sunday, and that weekend we had the great gift of a visit from his family...Ben and Ashley (first time meeting her...so fun to get to know her!) came on Thursday night and Mike and Peggy came on Friday night. We missed having Brooke, too!

On Saturday night, Aaron grilled steaks and we ate outside at the picnic shelter with my Grandma, Marie, and Sue joining us. Marie and Sue had driven up to see Grandma and it worked perfectly for everyone to come over and be together.

We sang and opened a few presents. The girls were already prepared for bed by that time, that's why they have their nightgowns on in these pictures.

It was also a time to celebrate Sue's birthday, so she and Aaron shared the song and the cake.

Ben and Ashley gave him this awesome NC State wall design that she made using thread and needles. She is a creative lady!

Mike let Aaron play a simple version of Wheel of Fortune to guess the gift that he and Peggy gave. We all got a kick out of playing along and trying to guess :)

On Sunday evening, we went on a dinner date with dear friends. We always have a blast together and the restaurant (Bull and Bones in Blacksburg) was a perfect choice for the occasion. When we got there, I realized that we also went there for Aaron's birthday last year, so we may have to make it a tradition now!

Then, on Wednesday of the following week, we had a birthday lunch at a local restaurant with my side of the family. We missed Stephen, Michael, and Vivian though!
